Shields Legal Group recently announced several changes in its management structure. Katherine D. Hoke, a 25 year + business, real estate and commercial litigator, is now the Managing Partner and Bart F. Higgins, a 20 year commercial litigator, is a Principal. These recent changes reflect the new direction of the firm.
“I am so grateful to work with Kathy and Bart for so many years,” said James D. Shields, founder of the firm. “They are both outstanding attorneys and they embody the firm’s primary directive, which is to act as a Trusted Advisor to our clients, strategic business partners and network contacts.”
Hoke is looking forward to her new responsibilities. “Jim and I have been partners for many years, but with the firm’s new direction, he asked me to take over the day-to-day decisions of the firm so he could focus on connecting with like-minded entrepreneurs and business owners.”
SLG is a different kind of law firm. Comprised of business lawyers who understand the issues and conflicts that business owners face, the attorneys task is to become their client’s Trusted Advisor. But there is more to the firm than just legal services.
“We are excited about our new Growth to Exit consulting service,” Shields stated. “Middle market companies who are focused on a 1-5 year plan of growth with an eventual liquidity event need a strategic advisor to help them transition through the stages. We help companies attract capital investment, increase the value of their business and create an integrated liquidity event plan.”
Higgins is also excited about the new changes at the firm. “My primary practice area is commercial litigation, but I when I first joined the firm in 2009, I learned very quickly that Jim has a different view of the practice of law,” he said. “Jim had me implement the Corporate Litigation Advisor (CLA) platform for several clients and after that, I was hooked.”
CLA is a conflict management tool that resolves conflicts in less time, saving the client money. Instead of corporate executives spending time managing litigation, CLA serves as the company’s client representative and works with existing counsel on a strategic litigation plan and budget. Shields notes that “CLA is a valuable conflict management tool that allows corporate executives to get back to their main business, while we manage their litigation.”
